Ikea Frekvens Portable Bluetooth Speaker

The Frekvens collection was a one-time collection between Ikea and Teenage Engineering, a Swedish consumer electronics company. The collection was released in early 2020 and consisted of two Frekvens speakers, a large party speaker and a smaller, more portable speaker.

I have the smaller Frekvens portable speaker, which is a fabulous piece of minimalistic and retro design. The speaker is no larger than a packet of cigarettes, a lot smaller than I expected it to be. Along the top of the device there is a micro USB port for charging, a 3.5mm audio input, a small power button and what makes this truly stand out, a large yellow volume dial. The dial adds a bit of fun quirkiness to the design of, what could easilly have become just another boring slab of plastic. Around the back of the speaker their is a metal belt clip that allows the speaker to be attached to your clothes, if that is something you would want to do.
The performance of this speaker is great too, offering a better audio experience than my mobile phone.
I love this speaker, and while it is a little too quiet and small for me to use it as my go-to main Bluetooth speaker, it is certainly a striking addition to my shelf and looks great next to my Toshiba KT-S1 Cassette Player.

And also looks fantastic when paired with my Fiio M9 hi res audio player.
