While the game eschews a traditional overarching narrative in favour of its signature episodic weirdness, it features brief contextual story vignettes for each of its 80 minigames—tasking players with everything from assisting bodybuilders and factory robots to guiding jumping cat dolls through surreal landscapes. Gameplay centres on simple, precise, one-to-two-button inputs (primarily using the ‘A’ button and D-pad) timed strictly to the beat, relying heavily on audio cues rather than visual indicators. Sets of minigames culminate in energetic “Remixes” that blend multiple themes and mechanic styles into single J-pop-backed tracks, alongside a new RPG-lite campaign mode called Beatspell and local multi-player options.
