I was recently gifted a box for a turquoise Nintendo DS Lite, which I thought would go lovely with the turquoise Nintendo DS Lite that I already have in my collection. So box in hand, I went searching for the DS, couldn’t find it anywhere in my collection, I looked everywhere I could think of for the best part of a week, until I looked in my repairs pile and saw a load of bits…

Back in 2023 I set about creating a Game Boy Macro, which is essentially a Game Boy Advance made from a few parts from the Nintendo DS Lite , Mainly the motherboard and the bottom screen. I haven’t shown the Game Boy Macro on this website, not quite sure why. But here are some build photos.

I can’t remember much of the build process of this but seeing that I took a picture of the power switch laying detached from the console, that leads me to believe that I messed up somewhere along the way while taking apart a black DS Lite to use then in a moment of what would have been sheer determination, I must have grabbed the turquoise DS from my shelf and used the innards for the final DS Macro.

Here is a look at the final DS Macro.

Not wanting the box to remain empty, I had to be on the lookout for another Nintendo DS Lite. Luckily I did not have to wait that long until I got my hands on this sorry looking specimen, It was disgustingly dirty underneath the plastics which would be impossible to clean, and it was also discoloured in many parts.

So armed with all the parts of the old DS’s I set about swapping all the parts that were in better condition that the ones on the new one. In the end I ended up swapping everything apart from the motherboard, right down to the D-pad and buttons. All in all it wasn’t that difficult to swap the parts over, however the ribbon cable from the top screen that curls inside the hinge was a nightmare to get connected again.

So here is the final DS with all parts swapped. And I am now satisfied that I now have another boxed Nintendo DS Lite in my collection.
