Spider-Man – Nintendo Gamecube (2002)

The 2002 Spider-Man game for the Nintendo GameCube is a third-person action-adventure title, primarily following the story of the Sam Raimi film but expanding it with additional comic book villains and scenarios, like the Shocker and the Vulture, alongside the main antagonist, the Green Goblin. The gameplay is level-based and linear, featuring a mix of indoor beat ’em up segments and thrilling outdoor levels that allow for basic but enjoyable web-swinging between New York skyscrapers, though it doesn’t offer the true open-world freedom of its sequel. Combat involves using punches, kicks, and unlockable combos, alongside various web-based attacks. Upon reception, the game was generally positive, praised for successfully translating the feel of swinging across the city and for its faithful presentation, which included voice acting by film stars Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe. However, it did receive criticism for a problematic camera system in indoor areas, its relatively short length, and the simplistic nature of its web-swinging compared to later titles.

This was a purchase with my recent Nintendo DSi, I only bought it so that my order would be above the threshold where I could split payments. I knew it looked water-damaged, however when I opened the package, it was even worse than I thought. The front inlay is warped and the manual is all stuck together and as hard as a rock.
