Primal Rage – Sega Saturn (1996)

Primal Rage on the Sega Saturn is a 2D fighting game set on a post-apocalyptic Earth called “Urth”. Players control one of seven prehistoric beasts, each worshiped as gods by their human followers. These beasts battle each other to determine the fate of the planet. Gameplay is unique for its time, featuring special moves performed by holding down certain buttons and then performing joystick movements. The Saturn version, unfortunately, was criticized for running at 30Hz instead of the usual 60Hz, affecting the smoothness of the gameplay. Despite this, it was considered by some to be the closest home console port to the arcade original, especially for its accurate animations when two of the same character were on screen.
