The Nintendo Game Boy DMG Rechargeable Battery Pack was an official accessory for the original Game Boy (DMG-01) released in 1989. It eliminated the need for AA batteries, instead offering a rechargeable Ni-Cd battery. These batteries are not as common these days due to environmental concerns and the memory effect, but the pack was a convenient option back then.
It plugged into the DC jack on the bottom of the Game Boy. While it offered a more eco-friendly alternative to disposable batteries, the Ni-Cd batteries only offered a playtime of around 2-3 hours on a single charge, and the rechargeability degraded over time.
