Knuckles Chaotix – Sega 32X (1995)

Released on the Sega 32X, Knuckles’ Chaotix spins off from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, focusing on Knuckles the Echidna and introducing the Chaotix team: Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, Mighty the Armadillo, and Charmy Bee. The story unfolds on a mysterious island where Doctor Robotnik and Metal Sonic aim to harness the power of mythical Chaos Rings. Gameplay retains the series’ side-scrolling platforming, but introduces a unique tethering mechanic where the player character is connected to a partner via a ring-based tether, which must be skilfully used for movement and special manoeuvres. Reception to Knuckles’ Chaotix was mixed; while some appreciated its innovative tether system and vibrant visuals, others found the physics cumbersome and criticized the level design and low difficulty. Despite being the only Sonic game on the 32X and introducing characters who would later appear in the series, it failed commercially and remains a relatively obscure title.

So In order for me to be able to purchase this heavy-hitter I decided to sell a few bits, including a few pokemon games that I’ve accumulated over a few years. I will never play them, so it made sense to me for them to go.

The box here is not in the best condition and the insert is battered. Luckily the insert is the same as other 32X inserts, so I will swap it out with an insert from another game in my collection. I’ll also look to get the manual at a later date, but I’m not looking forward to dropping around a hundred pounds on that.
