Nintendo Game Boy – Clear
The clear Game Boy refers to a transparent-cased version of Nintendo’s original handheld console, the DMG-01. While the original Game Boy launched in Japan on April 21, 1989, and later in other regions, clear or transparent variations were part of the “Play It Loud!” series, which introduced various vibrant and translucent case colours. These clear models, offering a glimpse into the console’s inner workings, were released later in the Game Boy’s lifespan, around the mid-1990s. The reception to the clear Game Boy, like the other “Play It Loud!” colours, was generally positive, appealing to a sense of style and novelty, especially during a decade that embraced transparent electronics. While technically the same in functionality as the standard grey model, the clear Game Boy became a sought-after variant for its aesthetic appeal and represented a fun, more personalized take on the classic handheld.
